run Disney
Run Disney is the organization that manages the marathon
events that take place
in the Disney theme parks
Run Disney is a specific way in which Disney targets a variety of generations. These events take place multiple times throughout the year. For the most part these events are themed. This year there is the Princess Half Marathon, Tinker Bell Half Marathon, Star Wars Half Marathon, Walt Disney World Marathon, and the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon. Each of these marathons consists of a weekend full of magic. At these marathons there are opportunities for different abilities to participate. From a kids run to the Dopey Challenge, a variety of athletes are able to compete at the level they want to.
Run Disney was originally meant to fill periods of time when occupancy at the park wasn’t high. These marathons allow for a “Racecation” to occur, where guests can get away from home and go on a vacation while also physically competing in events. These events attempt to stay relevant through theming. The themes of the 5ks and children’s races change every year to keep the races new and different, recently the theme was Frozen. Even though the participants have the opportunity to compete in a full marathon, there are also opportunities for them to compete in 5k and 10k races as well. This variety of events allows for different abilities to compete throughout the weekend. These events have seen much success and have in the past year sold out in just minutes. The reason for this is because Disney as a brand is associated with princesses and magic. This makes this rigorous task look a bit easier since it is occurring at the “happiest place on earth.” These racers also have the opportunity to run through the theme park, which is quite a unique experience. Disney tries to make it a point to make these events magical by preserving the idea that every mile is magic. In addition to this, even those participants who cannot finish the race are still seen as having accomplished something. They are still rewarded with a medal. Disney is very successful with their Run Disney events because they allow for a different group of people to participate in a rigorous physical activity while also having fun.
New Balance is a company that is able to greatly benefit from the Run Disney events by being a partner alliance with Disney. New Balance was chosen to align with Disney because of the values they hold and their alliance to manufacturing in the U.S. New Balance created the Disney running shoes and also provides educational classes on good running form and proper footwear. New Balance is a fairly smaller, U.S. based company that partners with Disney because of the immense success the company sees. However, each of these companies is able to greatly benefit from each other through these events.
Run Disney is a specific event that Disney promotes to target not only a wide variety of generations, but also a different group of people that may not be coming to the parks to ride the attractions or meet Mickey. Run Disney is an event that allows families to participate together in a fun and healthy way. Through Run Disney the theme parks see a great deal of success since its creation over twenty years ago.
