But Why choose Disney?
Learn why I chose to do my senior thesis project on Disney
After visiting Disney World fifteen times I have grown fascinated with the company. Not only have I spent many vacations at the Disney World Park in Florida, but I have also spent many hours watching Disney channel television shows and Disney movies. In addition to this, I have even traveled to Europe to go to Disney Paris. Disney has been apart of my childhood for as long as I can remember. After debating between various topics to do my senior thesis project on I settled on Disney. I was unsure of what exactly I wanted to learn about Disney. I have been to Disney so many times that I knew a lot about the utopian experience it creates. I have also heard of various rumors about the company, including the rumor that there is a tunnel system in the Magic Kingdom, and that there are hidden Mickey’s throughout the park. I wanted to learn if all of these rumors were true. I wanted to know whether there was an actually experience enacted when entering the park, and if there was, how was that experience created. After running through multiple questions with my advisor I settled on one looking at the marketing strategies Disney uses. I realized that by learning about marketing strategies and how they prove to be successful to companies, I could find various marketing strategies that Disney uses to appeal to their guests at the parks. I was unaware of what marketing strategies were and how companies use them to create success. However, after many weeks of research I realized marketing strategies are exactly what Disney uses. Between the events they plan at the parks, to the employees they choose to hire, Disney uses various marketing strategies to create the “Disney Experience. Although I still love the Disney Company my perception of the company has been altered after my research. I am more educated on the resources Disney uses to create such a happy experience within the park and outside of it as well. When entering Disney an experience is enacted, and even though I am aware of this manipulation, I still continue allow the experience to take over my trip there. So, after fifteen visits to Disney World and over five months of research I still continue to admire the company of Disney. Although I am now more informed on how they are so successful, I am still amazed with the size of the company and the continuous success they see each year. Even though I am nineteen years old I still adore Disney as much as I did when I was three years old. I am exactly the type of person Disney appeals to and because of that I chose to do my project on the company. Although I consider myself a “Disney Phile” I am slightly altered after this project.
